Hi everyone, Steve I wanted to thank you for posting this blog on your website I just came across it today. I am a 5 year associate with Ukrop's. I moved here 2 years ago (almost) just before the store opened. I am really happy to call Roanoke home and I pray I will be able to stay here no matter what the outcome is. I encourage others to shop us and keep us in town. Roanoke needs us.. we need Roanoke!

Mandy, thanks for the comment and welcome to Roanoke! I agree with you and now in fact do about 99% of my shopping at Ukrop's with the other 1% or so at Food Lion. It's a very nice store.

I was searching Roanoke Blogs and came across your post. I have to comment because I just went to that store for the first time last week! I was instantly in love. We are all about cutting costs and saving money-esp grocery shopping. We just moved here from NC and our main spot was walmart, but the one here is a scary place. We weren't comfortable going there at night, etc. I decided to pop in to Ukrops and I thought I'd gone to grocery heaven. The service was amazing, of course. A lot of the prices were about in line with what I pay at wal mart. What wasn't, I got at food lion. I loved the place and will check their sales each week so I have a great excuse to go there.

Steve, the secret is you cut your coupons early and shop while everyone else is in church. The store's usually empty before noon.

RnR, I have also heard the Sunday complaint from other people and I will grant you it is unusual for a grocery store to not be open 7 days a week nowadays. But, I have to say that I in particular avoid shopping on Sunday for the very reason that many folks like to shop on that day.

Anyone able to tackle Kroger's on a Sunday afternoon is a braver person than I. lol

I like Ukrop's, especially their customer service. Recently I even posted about how they went above and beyond in ordering my Breakstone butter. I was very impressed. I'd hate to see them leave, but I think one of the major obstacles they face is that they're not open on Sundays. Like it or not many folks shop on that day. If they want a bigger piece of the action they need to offer a larger slice of the pie, or they're gonna lose out to one of the other supermarkets that do remain open.
