Scenes of Roanoke - Harkrader Park (Late Fall Visit)

Sections: Scenes of Roanoke — Written By: Steve

Several months ago in a previous post I stopped off and visited a quaint little park along Colonial Avenue, across the street from a CVS (and where there used to be the WDBJ7 station headquarters).

At that time we were on the brink of Spring. And now we are on the brink of Winter.

I still think this little spot is pretty neat, but it didn’t quite have the same charm as a much warmer Spring or Summer day.

  1. I never understood that park. It’s in a weird location in a high traffic area, it has no parking and it’s just not easy to get to. I’ve never seen anyone in it. Have you?

  2. RnR, no, I haven’t seen anyone there while I was there, or even when I have driven by.

I think the park was named after the previous WDBJ7 President and General Manager (who was also active in other Roanoke area organizations) and it was built in recognition of him. And so it was built near what used to be the station headquarters.
