This minipark was named for John Harkrader, the first president and GM of WDBJ TV. People at the station used to trot over to enjoy lunch there in warmer months or just sit for a few minutes while taking a break. When WDBJ moved to Hershberger Rd, Harkrader Park was left to itself and now seems like it got lost somehow. Sad, actually. It was nice to look at when you came out the front door of the station. It's still nice to look at now, although most people today don't know why it is even there. I never see anyone there anymore, not since the station moved.

RnR, no, I haven't seen anyone there while I was there, or even when I have driven by.

I think the park was named after the previous WDBJ7 President and General Manager (who was also active in other Roanoke area organizations) and it was built in recognition of him. And so it was built near what used to be the station headquarters.

I never understood that park. It's in a weird location in a high traffic area, it has no parking and it's just not easy to get to. I've never seen anyone in it. Have you?
