Roanoke Blog Roundup - Into the 90s Edition
Yesterday we broke the 90 degree temperature mark in Roanoke. And today, and the through the weekend, we may even be knocking on the door of triple digits.
Last evening when I got home after work, I thought I may have to finally give in and turn on some central air conditioning at my home. But, soon after the sunset it cooled off some 20 degrees outside and a very comfortable breeze followed.
Now, the next few days may be a different story.
Here are some posts I have recently enjoyed reading from other local bloggers:
Roanoke Mountain Camground Introduction (June 1, 2008). Chris shares some photos and talks about a recent experience camping up on Roanoke Mountain. (@ The World To Muse)
Our Oak Is A Teenager, And We’re A Lot Older (May 29, 2008). David writes about his move to Roanoke from Columbia, Maryland some 19 years ago, and aspects of how him and his family adapted to the new area. (@ View From The Mountain)
Sprucing Up Campbell (May 22, 2008). Roanoke RnR took pictures and wrote about some improvements taking place on Campbell Avenue, including The Hancock building which just recently opened. (@ Roanoke RnR)
New Vendors on the Market (June 2, 2008). Rebecca again provides some great photos of items found at our downtown market, this time featuring some new vendors. (@ On the Market)

Roanoke Blog Roundup - Waiting on Summer Edition
This week until now has been a bit cooler than normal during the overnight and early morning hours in Roanoke. Well, of course not so cold as to leave frost on my car windshield or anything of that order, just has been slightly out of the comfort zone for this time of the year.
But, I expect that we’ll make up for it in the coming weeks and months like we always seem to do. The wait for summer with full-time warmth and sunshine is getting less and less everyday.
In fact, as I write this after having just been outside, it’s a much milder morning already.
Now, for some other recent posts of interest from neighboring blogs.
This Is Country (May 6, 2008). Roanoke RnR writes about the idea that this city and area can be (and usually is) considered very much country at heart. (@ Roanoke RnR)
A Saturday Market (May 7, 2008). Rebecca again provides some still-frames from a previous day’s experience on the City Market, where she sells her own homemade soaps. After viewing this post I could almost hear the sounds of downtown myself. (@ On the Market)
A Sunrise from Another Day (May 11, 2008). David writes about the recent temperatures here in Roanoke. And he mentions that even though we may have experienced some cooler Spring mornings than we’d like the past several days, there are certainly even less appealing alternatives. Roanoke Blog Roundup - First Edition
During these first few months as a blogger, I’ve encountered friendly neighboring blogs on or about Roanoke and which are written by fellow residents of this area. Some of them you may know or already follow, but just in case I’ve been thinking about a way to spread the word on these blogs here and this is what I’m going to do:
As I come across a blog with unique and relevant content I’m going to add a link to their site on my sidebar under the new heading of “Local Blogs”
Also (starting today and continuing every so often) I’m going to highlight a few of my favorite recent posts from these blogs.
So, without further delay welcome to the first edition of the Roanoke Blog Roundup!
This Week on the Market (April 27, 2008) - Rebecca provides some scenes of goings on at the Roanoke City Market downtown. (@ On the Market)
Showers & Seeds (April 28, 2008) - Roanoke RnR has posted pictures of some of those things in nature that April showers tend to bring. (@ Roanoke RnR)
A New Spot on Keagy (May 4, 2008) - David writes about his experience living in the Keagy Road area in connection with all of the construction taking place nearby at Keagy Village and The Townes at Hidden Valley. (@ View from the Mountain)
